Why do the LED’s on my Precision Charger stay illuminated
for a period of time after unplugged from AC power?
This is normal and does not affect your batteries. It is simply a function
of the Precision charging ensuring the charger is disconnected prior to
terminating the charge cycle.
Why doesn't my GPS Signal Strength icon always show all four
bars?
GPS signal strength is impacted by many influencers, including: i-Pilot Link
controller having a clear view of the sky (especially to the southern sky),
boat being located alongsid...
Why doesn't the plug on my CoPilot match the plug on my
trolling motor?
If the plug from the CoPilot and the trolling motor don't match, you have
purchased the wrong CoPilot.
Will I damage my batteries if I leave the charger plugged in
over long periods of non-use (like storage)?
No. Minn Kota's on-board chargers float the battery voltage between 13.2V
and 13.5V in the "maintenance" stage (3rd stage). This will allow you to
keep your battery charger plugged…
Will i-Pilot Link still work even if I do not have a
LakeMaster chip?
Yes. Only the Follow the Contour feature of i-Pilot Link requires a
LakeMaster chip. All other features of i-Pilot Link are functional even
without a LakeMaster chip.
Will the CoPilot work with my cable steer or hand control
trolling motor?
No, CoPilot is designed only for electric steer motors.
Will using an Alternator Charger drain my starting battery?
No. The Alternator charger is designed to only begin charging trolling
motor batteries after the starting battery has been fully charged.

Boat Rigging & Product Installation
- Boat Rigging Guides
- Battery Selection
For safety and compliance reasons, we recommend that you follow American Boat
and Yacht Council (ABYC) standards when rigging your boat. Altering boat wiring
should be completed by a qualified marine technician. The following
specifications are for general guidelines only.
CAUTION: These guidelines apply to general rigging to support your
Minn Kota motor. Powering multiple motors or additional electrical devices from
the same power circuit may impact the recommended conductor gauge and circuit
breaker size. If you are using wire longer than that provided with your unit,
follow the conductor gauge and circuit breaker sizing table below. If your wire
extension length is more than 25 feet, we recommend that you contact a qualified
marine technician.
An over-current protection device (circuit breaker or fuse) must be used.
Coast Guard requirements dictate that each ungrounded current-carrying
conductor must be protected by a manually reset, trip-free circuit breaker or
fuse. The type (voltage and current rating) of the fuse or circuit breaker must
be sized accordingly to the trolling motor used. The table below gives
recommended guidelines for circuit breaker sizing.

This conductor and circuit breaker sizing table is only valid for the
following assumptions:
- No more than 3 conductors are bundled together inside of a sheath or
conduit outside of engine spaces.
- Each conductor has 105° C temp rated insulation.
- No more than 5% voltage drop allowed at full motor power based on
published product power requirements.
*Wire Extension Length refers to the distance from the batteries to the
trolling motor leads.
