The Advantage of Using Outriggers
Increases the number of lines that can be trolled from your boat. Four lines can easily be trolled at once - one from each outrigger and one from each corner of your transom. An additional deep line may be trolled from a center outrigger.
Outriggers get your lures (or natural baits) out of the wake and into the green water increasing the spread of your lures and enabling you to cover a much larger area. Lures trolled in the outer wake of the boat have a more lifelike action.
Because the line trolling your lure starts from high up, you can get your lure much further behind your boat while maintaining its position near to the surface. Lures can be trolled with the line and leader out of the water. Lures with a tendency to spin and twist lines will do so less when trolled with an outrigger.
Provides automatic drop back when used with an outrigger release clip. This is essential when fishing for sailfish or other billfish. When the fish strikes the lure, the line is pulled from the release clip creating a large amount of slack and causing the lure to stop in the water simulating an injured fish. This allows time for an unhooked fish to pick up and often swallow the lure.

Where can I find the serial number tag on my Rupp outriggers?

We rivet a unique stamped number plate to all Rupprigger series outriggers. The plate is located about 18” up from the bottom of the outrigger, on the main base tube. It is important to have this number available when calling to order replacement parts like cables, spreaders or replacement tube sections. Older “hard to read” plates are easier to read when wet. Note: Rupp Top Gun outriggers do not have serial number tags.

My boat requires a custom outrigger system, can you help?

Yes, all of outrigger systems are built-to-order, so making slight modifications to fit a unique application can almost always be accommodated.

What are the voltage requirements for Rupp Power Riggers?

They require either 24vDC or 110vAC, depending on the package you purchase.

Can I retrofit my existing outriggers with a Rupp Power Rigger™ package?

Yes, Rupp Tournament or BiggRigg outriggers can be refitted with any of our PowerRigger packages.

How do I care for my Rupp outriggers?

Do you still have parts for my old Ruppriggers™?

Yes, call us with the serial number riveted to the base of your Rupprigger and we will be glad to help you out.

Can I re-anodize my Rupp outriggers?

Our experience is that the re-anodizing process is cost prohibitive. Buying new is a better deal!

Do you have detailed parts diagrams for my outriggers?

Yes, see our support section for the most commonly referenced diagrams; others can be emailed to you by requesting them via phone or email. Contact service@ruppmarine.com with the serial number riveted to the base of your outrigger.

What is ‘outrigger tuning’ and how often should I have it done?

Tuning an outrigger refers to the practice of removing the (spreader style) outriggers from the boat and spinning them to ensure they are straight and the cables are properly adjusted. Very similar to the spokes on a bike, properly adjusted cables are an important factor in keep the system functioning well and greatly reduces the possibility of damage. We recommend worn cables and missing bushings be replaced at this time as well. Frequency depends on use but should be done at least once a year. Any of our dealers specializing in outrigger installation should be able to help you with this.

Why does Rupp Marine use aluminum instead of stainless steel for Top Gun™ outrigger mounts?

Aluminum is lighter and doesn’t rust; we have used it for over 30 years with great success. Some manufacturers choose stainless steel for ease of manufacturing. Stainless provides a shiny finish out of the box, but over time the marine environment will cause it to rust and stain.

How much does an outrigger installation normally cost?

This is ultimately for you to negotiate with the installer and will depend on factors such as boat location, make, model and type of outrigger system. A rule of thumb is around $800-$1,000 for large outriggers and $500-$700 for Top Gun products. Hydraulic outrigger installations are typically only quoted after looking at the boat.

Can I install Rupp outriggers myself?

We supply detailed installation instructions with each shipment. Our large outriggers require some expertise and basic tools; most prefer to have it done professionally.
Rupp Top Gun (T-top mounted) products can be easily installed, especially if the boat comes pre-rigged with a mounting plate

Does Rupp Marine offer Installation services?

No, Rupp Marine is the product manufacturer. We have a list of installation partners and dealers in your area who can install our product for you. We have traveling dealers who will pick up the product from our factory deliver, and install it for you. Email service@ruppmarine.com for an up-to-date listing.

Can I use Rupp Top Gun poles in another manufactures base (or vice versa)?

Rupp Top Gun poles are designed to FIT INTO a 1.5” ID tube. They will fit Taco bases without any alteration or sleeve. Rupp poles can be sleeved to fit bases requiring 1.625” poles. Advise our customer service department when placing your order which base you have.

Should I buy fixed or telescoping Top Gun™ poles?

We recommend telescoping poles for individuals who:
a) Frequently trailer their boat.
b) Utilize rack storage.
c) Frequently remove outriggers for any reason.
d) Frequently utilize their vessels for uses other than fishing.
e) Frequently run at high speeds over long distances.

What are the main differences between the Standard, Tournament™ and BiggRigg™ outriggers?

What size boat can I mount outriggers to?
